From Memes To Millions: How Olamide Paid Francis Odega In Dollars For ‘Gerara Here'

Nollywood veteran Francis Odega recently shared the inside story of how a few improvised lines transformed his career into a global sensation. The actor revealed that his famous catchphrases "Gerara here" and "You don't know nothing" didn't just bring him internet fame; they caught the attention of some of the biggest names in the music industry.

Odega detailed how YBNL boss Olamide reached out to him personally while he was in South Africa. The rapper sought permission to sample the actor's voice and signature lines for Lil Kesh's music.

"Olamide called me and he paid me in dollars for him to use my voice... they asked whether they can lift my voice. I said YES," Odega shared.

The actor's comedic timing resonated far beyond Nigeria. During the peak of the "Gerara here" trend, Odega's influence reached international heavyweights that both Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent reposted his clips on social media.

He noted that even the duo Bracket reached out during the height of the craze.

The viral moment translated into significant commercial success. Odega leveraged his popularity into high-profile corporate partnerships, including a three-year stint as an ambassador for Etisalat and international commercial work for DStv in South Africa.
