In a move that has sent ripples from the streets of Shomolu to the hills of Ebiraland, the newly elected Chairman of Shomolu Local Government Area, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, is set to swear in a fresh wave of Special Assistants (SAs) and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs).

What is drawing local headlines, however, is the composition of the list an impressive 40% of the appointees are reportedly indigenes of Kogi State as the "Dullar" Legacy Continues.

Sources close to the Shomolu LG secretariat revealed to Okene News Hub that out of the nearly or more than a 100 slots allocated for SAs and SSAs, a significant portion representing roughly 40 appointees hail from the Confluence City.

This development is being viewed by many as a nod to the enduring influence of Ashimi’s predecessor and mentor, Hon. Abdulhameed Salau, popularly known as "Dullar." Hon. Dullar, a proud native of Okene Local Government in Kogi State, has long been a powerhouse in Lagos politics. His tenure was marked by a blend of Lagosian governance and a deep-rooted commitment to his kinsmen. Even after handing over the reins to the vibrant Hon. Ashimi, his philanthropic footprint remains visible, most recently through his partnership with the Faleke Massive Empowerment Program, which provided aid to thousands of Kogites, including the elderly and people living with disabilities.

While many see the appointments as a reward for the loyalty and hard work of the Kogi community in Shomolu, political analysts are already looking toward the future.

 Shomolu has long housed a dense population of Kogi indigenes who are active voters.

Some insiders suggest that the high percentage of Kogites in the new cabinet is a strategic alignment with Hon. James Faleke, as rumours keep flying that Faleke may be eyeing the Kogi governorship race in 2027, and maintaining a strong "Kogi-Lagos" political bridge is essential for such an ambition.

Hon. Lateef Ashimi, described by many as a "vibrant and dedicated youth leader," appears ready to hit the ground running. By integrating a significant number of Kogites into his administration, he is not only maintaining the inclusive "Dullar" blueprint but also ensuring a diverse team to help pilot the affairs of one of Lagos's most bustling local governments.

For the people of Okene and Kogi State at large, this cabinet list serves as a testament to the growing influence of their sons and daughters in the diaspora of Lagos politics.
