A Call For Awareness And Responsible Leadership Among Ebira Youths
Ebira youths are strongly advised to remain wise, vigilant, and guided by truth in all political engagements. At this critical period, it is important not to allow any political actors to exploit sentiments or emotions for personal or sectional interests. We must remain committed to unity, peace, and sustainable development rather than short-term gains that do not serve the collective interest of our people. History has shown that when misinformation and manipulation are allowed to thrive, it is often the youths and the wider community that bear the consequences, while those behind such actions remain detached from the resulting harm.
It is therefore necessary to critically evaluate every message, promise, or narrative being circulated, especially within political spaces. We must ask questions, seek clarity, and ensure that our decisions are guided by wisdom, truth, and collective interest rather than emotion or pressure.
True leadership is not defined by rhetoric, but by genuine commitment to the welfare and progress of the people. As youths, our strength lies in unity, awareness, and our collective refusal to be used as instruments of division or conflict. Let us prioritize peace, education, empowerment, and long-term progress. Our future is far more valuable than any temporary political gain.
We also respectfully call on Omoyele Sowore, as a prominent human rights activist and public figure, to approach information and narratives concerning Kogi Central with careful consideration and due diligence, especially as the election period approaches. Kogi Central has, in the past, experienced painful crises fueled by misinformation, manipulation, and emotionally charged narratives. These unfortunate incidents led to the loss of lives and destruction of property, outcomes that remain deeply painful and unforgettable for many families and communities. It is therefore important that all stakeholders exercise caution and responsibility in how sensitive issues are communicated and amplified.
We acknowledge that there are diverse voices within the community, particularly among the youth, expressing different perspectives. However, it is essential that such voices remain guided by truth, verified facts, and a genuine commitment to peace and development. The spread of unverified information, especially through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook can easily inflame tensions and create unnecessary fear and misunderstanding.
As a public figure with wide influence and reach, we respectfully encourage careful engagement with local narratives to avoid unintentionally amplifying misinformation. Constructive dialogue, proper fact-checking, and engagement with credible local sources will go a long way in promoting peace, understanding, and stability within the region.
Kogi Central cannot afford a repetition of past experiences. The collective priority of all stakeholders, leaders, activists, and citizens alike, must remain the preservation of peace, protection of lives, and strengthening of unity among our people.
We trust that this message will be received in good faith and in the spirit of shared responsibility. There are individuals who are well acquainted with the history and socio-political dynamics of Kogi Central, including those who have lived and served within the state, who can provide valuable context and balanced perspectives on past and present developments.
At this critical moment, we urge everyone to commit to being agents of peace, truth, and responsible engagement, for the sake of our communities and future generations.
Ebira youths must remain vigilant, united, and forward-thinking. Peace remains our collective responsibility.
Signed:
Concerned Ebira Youths President (CYP)
