Sokoto Police Recover Weapons, Arrest 15, Neutralize One Bandit
The Sokoto State Police Command's Anti-kidnapping Unit has killed one bandit, detained fifteen more, and retrieved firearms and live ammunition from state offenders.
State Police Commissioner Ali Hayatu Kaigama revealed that the breakthrough was an attempt to purge the state of crimes and criminalities, particularly horrible crimes like banditry, abduction, and livestock rustling throughout the state, when he was parading the accused bandits.
He went on to say that the agents also stopped a kidnapping attempt in Gigani village, Gwadabawa local government area, by engaging the alleged bandits in a gunfight and neutralizing one of them along with his GPMG rifle, which had six live rounds attached.
The CP insisted that concerted attempts were still being made to find and apprehend additional members who were on the run.On February 13, 2024, police officers set up a surprise attack along the Bodinga-Tambuwal Highway based on reliable information. They apprehended an eight-person kidnapping group and their suspected driver as they were leaving for their illegal activities. The group also had three Ak47 rifles with a total of ninety live rounds (30 in each magazine).
He said that on the same day, at around 1:00 PM, unidentified gunmen broke into his village in Gedawa village in Wamakko LGA of Sokoto State and abducted Harande Gidado, Alhaji Buba Zaria, and Alhaji Manuga Kware, all of whom were residents of Wamakko LGA in Sokoto State, taking them to an unidentified location.
As part of the ongoing investigation, four residents of Baliyo village in Binji LGA, Sokoto—Surajo Rugga, Sanda Bube, Umaru Jemmu, and Faruku Usman—were taken into custody on the 10th of February, 2024.
He continued, "Three of the four suspects admitted during questioning that they planned to commit the crimes with others—who are now at large.” They will soon be charged.
