Kano Leadership Shake-up: Governor Yusuf Relieves Head of Service, Appoints Acting Successor

In a move to revitalize the state’s administrative engine, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has relieved the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his duties with immediate effect.

The announcement, which signals a significant shift in Kano’s civil service leadership, was confirmed late Tuesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

While the exit marks a sudden transition, Musa’s departure comes two years after he officially reached retirement age in 2024. Despite completing his formal tenure, the state government had previously extended his stay to maintain continuity within the civil service.

According to the Governor’s office, the decision to conclude Musa's appointment is a strategic step toward reorganizing government institutions and enhancing operational efficiency across the state. Governor Yusuf expressed his gratitude to the outgoing official, acknowledging his "steadfast commitment" and contributions to the state during his prolonged service.

To ensure a seamless transition, the Governor has appointed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota to step in as the Acting Head of Service.

Maimota will oversee the responsibilities of the office until a substantive successor is formally named.

The Governor has directed an immediate handover of all official documents and responsibilities. The transition process is slated for completion by Wednesday, March 11, 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Kano’s bureaucratic leadership.
