Yahaya Bello Hosts NDC Delegation, Receives Landmark Youth Development Award
Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, was the center of a high-profile recognition ceremony on Friday evening as he hosted a delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) at his Abuja residence.
The gathering, held during the traditional Iftar (the breaking of the Ramadan fast), served as the formal presentation of an award previously conferred on the former governor for his landmark contributions to youth development and inclusive governance in Nigeria.
The delegation presented Bello with the “Award of Recognition for Excellence in Youth Inclusivity and Development.” The honor was originally announced during the Strategic Youth Conference 2025, a joint initiative by the National Defence College and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development. Although Bello was a Special Guest at the summit, prior official engagements had prevented him from receiving the plaque in person, leading to Friday’s private presentation.
During the presentation, the NDC officials took a moment to reflect on Bello’s eight-year tenure in Kogi State, highlighting specific pillars of his administration:
Commending his proactive approach to securing the Confluence State.
Noting his record-breaking appointments of women and young people to key cabinet positions.
Praising his investments in education and infrastructure that opened new doors for the next generation.
"These initiatives did more than just provide jobs; they expanded the socio-economic environment and allowed young people to see themselves as leaders in public service," a spokesperson for the delegation noted.
In his acceptance speech, the former governor expressed deep gratitude to the leadership of the NDC. He described the award as a catalyst that would drive him to continue his advocacy for the Nigerian youth even outside of elective office.
"This recognition is both humbling and motivating," Bello stated. "It encourages me to remain steadfast in supporting any initiative that promotes inclusive governance and national development."
He further lauded the National Defence College for its critical role in shaping Nigeria’s strategic leadership and fostering policy dialogues essential for the country’s security architecture.
The event transcended a mere award ceremony, evolving into a robust discussion on national engagement. Between the prayers and the breaking of bread, Bello and the NDC delegation exchanged ideas on how to better integrate youth energy into Nigeria’s long-term development objectives.
