The management of Kaduna Polytechnic (KADPOLY) has officially broken its silence regarding the recent wave of student protests, attributing the tension to the "overzealous conduct" of certain members of the institution’s dress code enforcement committee.

The controversy erupted earlier this week at the College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS), when security personnel and committee members barred scores of students from entering the campus. The officials allegedly claimed the students' attire was "indecent" a move that sparked immediate outrage and led to viral videos of female students protesting at the institution’s gates.

In a swift move to de-escalate the situation, the Polytechnic’s Management reviewed the footage that had been circulating on social media since Thursday, March 12, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, Mr. Godwin Ayegba, the school distanced itself from the harsh enforcement, stating that the students shown in the video were actually dressed within acceptable limits.

"The Management wishes to state clearly that the dresses worn by the affected students, as shown in the viral video, appear moderate and appropriate," the statement read. "In view of this, the students in question ought not to have been barred from their lectures on this basis."

Adding a layer of complexity to the incident, one female student in the viral clip alleged that officials justified the crackdown by citing the ongoing Ramadan fast. According to her, the officials insisted that students must "cover up more" out of respect for the holy month, regardless of whether they were Muslims or not.

"I am fully covered; my trousers reach the ground," the student lamented in the video. "They said because they are fasting, we should wear cardigans in this heat?"

Mr. Ayegba clarified that while the institution maintains a dress code to promote professionalism, it does not support "extreme or arbitrary" enforcement. He noted that the incident was likely the result of individual staff members "going beyond their bounds."

 A formal probe has been launched to identify the specific officials involved in the harassment.

The school reaffirmed that no student’s right to education should be hindered by over-reacting enforcement committees.

Members of the Dress Code Committee have been warned to stick strictly to approved guidelines or face disciplinary action.

The President of the KADPOLY Students’ Union Government (SUG), Ibrahim Mai Jama’a, has also voiced his support for the students, warning against any further victimization. He urged the management to ensure that the "overzealous" officials are held accountable to prevent a recurrence of the gate-blocking drama.

While the campus remains calm, the management has advised students to continue following the official dress code while using proper internal channels rather than social media to report any future grievances.
