Wike Approves Confirmation of 1,659 FCT Staff; "Ghost Worker" Concerns Rise
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has officially approved the confirmation of 1,659 staff members within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). This move follows a comprehensive examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.
The exercise addressed a significant backlog, confirming employees who had been recruited as far back as 2016 and 2019, as well as those who joined shortly before Minister Wike took office in August 2023.

The Commission noted that the absence of 224 officers from such a critical career milestone has fueled suspicions that these individuals may be "ghost workers" on the FCTA payroll.
In addition to the confirmations, the Commission has finalized arrangements for the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises for eligible staff.
These updates come as part of a broader mandate approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The administration aims to strengthen the civil service workforce and boost morale in alignment with the "Renewed Hope" agenda.
